Being a Scientist

Science Curriculum Statement of Intent

At Chudleigh Primary School, we want to encourage every child to be curious about the world around them and to ask questions about their experiences. We want them to learn how to look for answers in a scientific way. In EYFS and KS1 our scientists will explore through observing and sorting particularly within our school locality. In year 3 and 4 our scientists will investigate and test ideas. In year 5 and 6 our scientists will experiment to answer questions. We will equip children to take measurements, share their findings and use that to inform their conclusions.

We believe that children learn best by starting from their existing knowledge and experiences and see our Enquiry-led curriculum as a way of supporting this. By asking questions which engage children’s curiosity, and by starting from their own understanding and ideas, we want them to explore the natural world and grow as scientists.
