Spring Term 2017/18 Year 5

This term, our main topic has been Italy. We began by designing and building flying machines and then learnt about the life and works of Leonardo da Vinci. We studied the geography of the country and its climate and made comparisons with our local area.

The highlight of the term was tasting Italian foods and making pizza, which we had designed ourselves.

In Science, we developed our knowledge and understanding of the Solar System and enjoyed modelling the moon phases in the hall, using a powerful lamp and balls.

We were fortunate to have an informative visit by a local fire officer, who helped us gain a clearer understanding of fire safety.

There have been a few sporting events during the term and some children have competed in gymnastics, cross country and athletics competitions.

Mrs. Lacey’s class had the opportunity to join with other schools in the area at a Fairtrade conference, which was hosted by Chudleigh School.

A small group of children have been involved in a community project for Lent with Reverend Paul and Reverend Eleanor and have spent their Monday afternoons visiting different organisations in the community and developing prayers for these organisations.

As part of International Week, we joined up with the Y6 classes and all enjoyed many activities, related to Australia.
